The other day I posted a bit about Twestival, a worldwide collection of Twitter user meet-and-greets to help raise money for charity: water. This morning AgencySpy posted this video for charity: water featuring Beck’s “Timebomb”. Find the Twestival gathering in your area.

“On 12 February 2009, 100+ cities around the world will be hosting Twestivals bringing together local Twitter communities for an evening of fun as well as raising money and awareness for Charity: water. Twestival.fm is a global online music project in association with Twestival aiming to raise an additional $20,000 for charity.
We’re now looking for artists, musicians and labels using Twitter who would like to give something back to the community and donate a track.”

London Twestival 2009 [click me!]
On 25th September 2008 over 200 excited Twitter (http://twitter.com/) fans gathered in London for the first ever Twestival. Madhouse loved the project and was all over it: website, entertainment, film crew, and 10 people to staff the event. Guess what? *It rocked*.
Four months down the line, Obama is President, Jonathan Ross returns to the BBC, and Twitter has gone mainstream. Woop! Time for a party. And this time, 120+ cities are going to join us…
The event is sponsored by companies including Microsoft, Amiando, Tipjoy and Mashable, and all proceedings will go directly to charity:water, a non-profit organization bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations.
The London event takes place on 12th February 2009 and is hosted at fabulous new venue near Old Street called Shoreditch Studios. The space holds around 500 people and tickets were sold out in under and hour, with the last ten tickets going for £50 a piece.
Renate Nyborg (@renate) from Madhouse is responsible for Music & Entertainment for the London event, Sinead Coffey is overseeing event design and the Blonde Ambition DJs are choosing the soundtrack. IT’S GONNA BE A MAD ONE…

We are currently hosting a design competition for the official Twestival t-shirt with Desired Hearts. Entries close on February 5th and then the Twittersphere will have a chance to vote on their favourite design. A winner will be announced prior to Twestival. Later this week, people can start ordering t-shirts online for approximately $20. (All proceeds after cost go direct to charity: water)
A second exciting element of the t-shirt involves a very ego-driven fundraising activity. @michellegreer had a great idea to making the back of the t-shirt a giant word cloud of top donors. The idea being that the larger you donate, the bigger the @twitter name appears. This discussion evolved into an interactive word cloud web site where all donors names will appear with a click thru to their Twitter profile page. The top 100-200 donors will get their name printed on the back of the shirt – so there is incentive for people and brands to give more.

Last September, a group of Twitter users based in London organized a live tweetup accompanied by a food drive and fundraising for a local charity. As a result of the event’s success, Twestival was borne out of the idea that if local Twitterers in several cities collaborate on an international scale, it could have a spectacular global impact.
On February 12, thousands of socially engaged Twitter users will convene at specific venues in cities across five continents to meet, mingle and make a difference. There are already events being planned across the globe from New York to Sydney. Johnnesburg joined the long list of 184 last Friday, 30 January 2009.
